Privacy notice
Last updated: October 2026.
This notice explains what personal information The Automation Shed collects, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it short because we collect very little.
Who we are
The Automation Shed is an independent website. We are responsible for (the "controller" of) the personal information described here. For anything about your data, email us at hello@theautomationshed.co.uk.
What we collect and why
If you sign up for new guides by email
- What: your email address, your name if you choose to give it, when you signed up, and which page you signed up from.
- Why: to send you the emails you asked for, and to understand which guides lead people to sign up.
- Legal basis: your consent, which you give when you sign up.
When we email you
- What: which links in our emails you click.
- Why: to see which guides readers find useful, so we can write more of them.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the site, which we think is reasonable and low-impact. We don't track whether you open our emails.
We don't run advertising trackers, we don't make automated decisions about you, and we don't sell or share your information with anyone for marketing.
Who handles it for us
The site runs on Ghost(Pro), which stores sign-up details and sends our emails on our behalf. Ghost acts as our data processor under its data processing agreement. Ghost's main servers are in the Netherlands. Some of the service providers Ghost uses may be outside the UK and EU; where that happens, the data is protected by standard contractual clauses, a recognised legal safeguard. You can ask us for more detail.
How long we keep it
We keep your sign-up details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, and then we remove them.
Cookies
The site only sets cookies needed to make it work, such as keeping you signed in if you're a subscriber. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your information
- limit how we use it
- give you your information in a format you can take elsewhere
Your right to object. You can object at any time to us using your information on the basis of our legitimate interests, such as tracking link clicks. Email us and we'll stop.
Withdrawing consent. You can stop our emails at any time using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email, or by emailing us.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator.
